Care Roadshow Scotland 2025: Free CPD Sessions from Scottish Care, SSSC, and More

Care Roadshow Scotland is set to bring together leading figures in the social care sector on Tuesday, 1st April 2025 for a full day of free CPD seminars, testing products and services and networking. The event, held at Hampden Park Stadium in Glasgow, will feature crucial insights from experts including Dr Donald Macaskill, CEO of Scottish Care, and representatives from the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

Key Speakers and Sessions

The event begins with Dr Donald Macaskill’s seminar, "It is Beyond an (April Fools) Joke: The Failure to Value Social Care" from 10:15 AM to 10:45 AM. Dr Macaskill will discuss the political and societal failure to properly value the contribution of social care organisations and its impact on both care recipients and providers.

The next session, "You, Your People, Your Future: A Strong Foundation for Success," will run from 11:15 AM to 12:00 PM. Speakers include:

  • Lesley Ballingall, Home Instead SUR Group
  • Caroline Deane, Scottish Care
  • Maxine Smedley, HC-One Scotland and Wales

This seminar will focus on the importance of wellbeing in care organisations, addressing staff retention, recruitment and the overall work culture.

Person-Centred Care for All

From 12:45 PM to 1:30 PM, the session "Person-Centred Care in Practice: Approaches for Supporting Individuals, Including Those with Dementia" will feature:

  • Suzanne Mumford, Head of Nursing at Care UK
  • Fiona Whittaker, Christadelphian Care Homes
  • David Wilson-Wynne, Senior Dementia Consultant at the Dementia Services Development Centre

This presentation will explore practical approaches to person-centred care, especially for individuals with dementia, and strategies for improving care quality and communication.

Digital Skills in Social Care

The final seminar of the day, "Supporting Safe Care Through Digital Skills Development," will be led by Rob Stewart, Learning and Development Adviser at the Scottish Social Services Council. Taking place from 2:15 PM to 2:45 PM, this session will highlight the importance of integrating digital skills into the workforce for safer and more efficient care delivery.
