Always caring, always nursing: 100 years of professional pride

Always caring, always nursing: 100 years of professional pride

This year marks 100 years since the Nurses Registration Act 1919, which for the first time brought nurses together under one profession. The NMC is marking this historic occasion by celebrating the expertise, experience and knowledge nurses have that make them the most trusted profession in the UK.

Over the 100 days leading up to 23 December – exactly 100 years since the Act was signed into law – the NMC wants as many nurses as possible to get involved in the celebrations. Here’s how you and your nurses can take part:

  • Share your nursing story The NMC’s nursing register has thousands of people from all around the world, working in a huge range of settings who all have their own story to tell. From now until 23 December they are looking for interesting and inspirational stories to be shared on their website, blogs, social media and videos. Share your story.
  • Get creative to celebrate your profession The NMC has teamed up with the Nursing Times to launch a design competition for nurses. The challenge is to design a commemorative pin badge that celebrates 100 years of professional pride. The winning design will be turned into a limited edition badge for long-serving nurses on the NMC register. Find out how to enter.
